It's the week before Thanksgiving and preparations are in full swing. Before the pie baking and table setting occurs, I'm taking this week to reflect on all of the many blessings I've received over the past year. I have so, so much for which to be thankful. I hope y'all take time between the turkey to count your blessings. May they be plentiful.

A sweet friend suggested that I start doing more floral work, so every month I'll create a piece and post in on the site. Enjoy!

It's officially Fall, y'all! Yesterday, in the Well Styled Weekend, I showed you how to look adorable in an orchard. Now put all of those apples to good use and celebrate the changing of the season with a Hot Apple Toddy:

Ingredients:

2 oz whiskey (I prefer Gentleman Jack)

1 tsp sugar

Hot Apple Cider

Orange wheel for garnish

Cinnamon stick for garnish

2-3 whole cloves for garnish

Preparation:

Coat the bottom of an Irish coffee glass with honey. Add the whiskey, fill with hot apple cider and stir well. Garnish with the orange, cinnamon stick and cloves. Cheers, y'all!

A Shower for Sophie Kate

I can not wait to be an aunt! My brother and sister-in-law are expecting their first baby, Miss Sophie Kate, in December and I couldn't resist throwing a shower in her honor. Although the soiree isn't until early October, I wanted to give y'all a sneek peek at the inspiration. We're pretty sure little SK is going to be a princess and her favorite color is definitely going to be pink (she is here mother's daughter after all!). I'm loving the palate of rasberry and bubblegum pink with this soft lemonade yellow; a little unexpected, but not too "out there" for a girlie girl. It's football season, y'all! Although it "officially" kicked off last week, this Saturday means true football for most SEC fans as we all face our first interconference opponent. While my husband is hitting the road to Auburn, I'll be making the trip from Atlanta to Athens to cheer on my Gamecocks. Since this is my first Saturday off since May, I am very excited to tailgate and socialize with my fellow Carolina alum. Tailgating is an art form here in the South and includes a Southerners favorite pastime: the partaking of an adult beverage. While Lexington has it's bourbon and Knoxville has it's moonshine, the rest of the southeastern states are focused on making beer. Really, really good beer. Here's a (very) short list of awesome brewers that are available for most SEC roadtrips and if you're lucky, home games too. Drink local, ya'll!

Now that the temperatures have lowered (read: not 95 degrees), I finally feel Fall Ready! And one of my very favorite things about Fall is the back to school shopping. I am head-over-heels for the September JCrew catalog. So, so many pieces that I want to make my own! So I popped over to my local and picked up what are sure to be some of my favorites for this fall. Flame is obviously the hot color for Fall according to Jenna Lyons (whom I want to be when I grow up) & co. This is very convenient as I want to live in this color. If I could wear something Flame every day I would, so I'll settle for these stripes and painting my nails this Fall bright and be a happy girl. Speaking of happy, I'm thrilled to own a piece of the crew's latest capsule collection: Lulu Frost for JCrew. Her jewelry makes such a statement and since I have no willpower over beautiful jewelry, I got some Lulu while the gettin' was good. Oh, how this makes me miss "back to school" shopping!

I am moving to Minnesota. I can't even type that without bursting out into a fit of giggles! If you would have told me 6 months ago that I would be moving to the upper Midwest, I would have called you crazy. Yet, here I am, planning an imminent move to Minneapolis. It's funny the people God places in your life. The timing and purpose of it all is hard to wrap my head around. I'm thankful for my husband and some wonderful friends who will make this transition fun and inspiring. I never, ever thought I'd live in a place where magnolias didn't bloom and sweet tea isn't served, but I'm up for an adventure, so the Land of 10,000 Lakes it is. Y'all come visit!

As the granddaughter of two veterans [World War II and Korea], I have a true appreciation for the hard work and sacrifice our servicemen and women and their families make to keep this country safe, free and the most fabulous in the world. Wave your flags, light some sparklers and wear your red, white & blue to celebrate. No.1: I love these chevron earrings reminiscent of a Sargent's stripes [Urban Outfitters]. Ah, the weekend brunch! I just adore gathering with friends and/or my husband for some yummy breakfast food at an afternoon hour. Even more exciting is the chance to rock a casual look while sipping my mimosa in the sunshine. Some things I'm pretty obsessed with at the moment: No. 1: You can not be a lady who brunches without some cat-eye sunglasses. Love these from Kate Spade! No.2: These patent thongs from Tory Burch; the neutral is worth the investment. No. 3: How cute are these leggings from Rag and Bone? Pastel denim is such a trend right now and I've fallen hard for this lemon color. No. 4: I bought this "Beekeeper Blouse" from Anthropologie and it's become my new go-to top. It pretty much as everything I love in one piece; crochet lace, sequins and a pop of color. Perfection! No. 5: This cuff from JCrew is amazing. I'm not really a "rock-star" type of gal, but I love the architectural look of these studs paired with the leather and the neutral color tones it down enough for me to be wearable without feeling like I'm putting on an act. I haven't blogged in a while. Okay, a long, long time. I apologize for the absence, but I've been busy making things happen. Like, BIG things. I'm in the middle of a rebrand, I'm adding arms and ideas to my business and I just completed my first photoshoot for a publication {one that people pay actual money for in actual stores}. I've spent a lot of time worried about the last two years. The direction I've taken and the decisions I've made have more often than not been the "road less travelled" and sort of unconventional, but I've learned that without each and every one of those steps, today and all of the days after it would not be possible. I'm so excited to be able to share these projects of which I've been working so hard. Stay tuned friends!

I love this Vintage Chic shoot I styled for the fabulous Lauren Grove of Every Last Detail. Everything from the comfy blankets to the pink lemonade made me want to kick off my shoes and relax on a warm Spring day. The concept behind the ELD Style Dictionary was to take a wedding "style" and bring it to life. We chose "Vintage" and "Chic" and it was my job to define those two styles through the use of props, floral design, wardrobe and stationery. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day. They always say dress for the job you want, not the job you have. Well, my, my Miss Catherine Middleton! What a way to make a statement. I was up bright and early for the Royal wedding waiting with baited breath (along with the rest of the world) to see the dress. Honestly, I didn't really care about the rest of the pomp and circumstance; I wanted to see the fashion. Alexander McQueen was a fabulous choice on Kate's part (and Pippa's for that matter...I'm obsessed with Pippa!) and I adored the Queen's gift of the Cartier tiara for the ceremony. Not only is she now an HRH, but she's cemented herself as a fashion icon. Personally, I'm excited to see the effect this will have on the wedding industry in the coming months. I do believe we'll be seeing some long sleeved wedding gowns on late-winter brides and definitely a return to more "traditional" touches such as box pleats, blushers and ballgowns. I enjoyed the early morning fashion commentary with my friend Annette and loved getting her design aspect and all of the work that goes into a creating a dress fit for a princess.

Happy Friday! I'm blogging from Key West where preparations for the McWedding are well under way. I am so excited to share all of the DIY loveliness from this laid back island couple and I am thrilled for these two of our very best friends. First up: a garden rehearsal and a sunset cruise. The groom has created and crafted a rehearsal dinner menu of Mango and Roasted Steak Wraps, Cuban Sliders, Key West Shrimp Ceviche, Island Salad with Papaya and Citrus and Fresh Vegetable Pasta Salad. Delicious! I hope y'all have a wonderful weekend; I'll be back with more from this super sweet pair.

I am one day away from traveling to the Keys for my first "real" vacation sinc my honeymoon. To say I am jumping out of my skin with excitement would be a vast understatement. I am so looking foward to spending time with Parker, great friends and getting some wonderful inspiration to push me through the rest of this fabulous year! These last six months have been pretty amazing. I've been busy, busy; this last week in particular. Day-to-day work, a photoshoot last Monday with this amazing gal {and this one and this one}, a couple of projects unrelated to business, but none-the-less, work, work, work. I am so unabashedly grateful and am so happy with where I've come since November. I have amazing clients, I'm doing my heart's work and things are moving right along. However, with the day to day busyness, I have been staying on a particular course and haven't truly stepped out of my comfort zone.

If there's anything I've learned from my time at MTH, it's introspection. I've really been giving thought to where I want to be/go/do as a person and as an entity. I've been meeting with inspiring people and working on inspiring projects, yet one thing that has occurred to me is that I'm still setting boundaries for myself and for my work. Putting "what I do" into a neat little box and an elevator speech that could perfectly describe "me" in 30 seconds or less. So, about a month ago I said yes to a project that has taken me so far out of my boundaries, I'm basically off the map. A great friend asked me to create her wedding veil.

I consider myself to be an all around "crafty" person and create the majority of the elements associated with projects I contribute to, but this was on another level.With it being such a special project for such a special person, it didn't matter that I had 85% no idea what I was doing. I had 15% behind me and the knowledge that I was going to make.it.work. And I did. I finished the project last night and could almost weep for joy {if I wasn't so exhausted and could summon the tears, I would}. The result has exceeded my expectations beyond my wildest dreams and ignited in me a new passion and lust for creation.

I get on a plane tomorrow night to hand deliver my labor of love and cannot wait to share it with this sweet bride. I am overjoyed to be able to contribute to such a special part of her wedding day and am so honored that she trusted me with such a great task.* I can't wait to stand at the southernmost point and toast to a beautiful sunset and to new beginnings.

The annual Carolina Cup runs this Saturday and with it, the official start of the Spring season. Springdale Race Course in Camden, South Carolina hosts gentlemen and ladies dressed in their very finest and at the Cup, it's all about the dress. I love this watercolor print from the fine folks at Anthropologie {Gathered Hemlock Dress in "Orange"}. It's different from the sea of Lilly normally spotted around Springdale and "different " isn't exactly a bad thing. Since the Cup is an all day affair, make sure to wear stylish, yet comfortable, shoes. You wouldn't want your heels sinking in the grass, so I always opt for a cute pair of flats {"Brisk Pixie" by Clarks}. Also, make sure to grab a cute clutch to carry your essentials. I love this wicker version with light gold hardware from Kate Spade {Eastward Avenue Kayla}. Happy 100th Birthday, Tennessee Williams! Oh what I wouldn't give to be able to sit down and share a cocktail with that man. The stories he would tell! No doubt we'd be sipping on his signature drink: the Ramos Gin Fizz. This creamy, floral but tart concoction slips on like silk and keeps you cool as you savor Mr. Williams' steamy, Southern written word. I'll drink to that, y'all!

Ramos Gin Fizz

2 ounces Gin

1 ounce Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice

1 Egg White

1 ounce Simple Syrup*

1 ounce Rose Water

1 ounce Half and Half

Club Soda

Garnish with an Orange Wheel

Pour the gin, lemon juice, egg white, simple syrup, rose water and half and half into a cocktail shaker full of ice; shake for a minute. Strain into a pilsner glass or other tall, slim glass filled with ice; top with club soda and stir. Add garnish.

*Simple Syrup

1 cup Water

1 cup Sugar

Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat to a boil while stirring. Reduce the heat and continue to stir until the sugar dissolves. Cool to room temperature. Using a funnel, pour the syrup into a clean container and store in the refrigerator indefinitely. Makes about 1 1/2 cups.

Sunday Supper

It's the first day of Spring and we're officially ready. We've fired up the Big Green Egg for the first barbeque of the season. On the menu? Parker's special recipe for Baby Back Ribs, my yummy {and super easy} Garlic Mashed Potatoes and a new recipe for White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal cookies. Pass the plates, y'all!

Barbequed Baby Back Ribs

1 Slab of Ribs

Dry Rub Mixture*

1 Cup of Barbeque Sauce

Heat grill to 225 - 275 degrees F. Take the rack of ribs and cut in half. Wash and then pat dry. Lay the half slabs on aluminum foil and rub each with the mixture of seasoning to taste. Wrap separately in the aluminum foil and place on the grill for 1 hour and 45 minutes to 2 hours and 15 minutes depending on the heat of your grill. Unwrap aluminum foil packets and place cooked ribs bone side down on the grill. Baste with barbeque sauce and cook another 10 to 20 minutes or until desired amount of sauce is applied. Pull from grill and let meat rest 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

*Parker and I prefer a mixture of salt, pepper, garlic salt and an added dash of this and that.

Barbeque Sauce

3/4 cup Ketchup

1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed Dark Brown Sugar

3 tablespoons White Wine Vinegar

2 tablespoons Minced Onion

2 tablespoons Dijon Mustard

1 teaspoon Louisiana Hot Sauce or more to taste

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground Black Pepper

In a bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, onion, mustard, hot sauce and pepper. Can be covered and refrigerated for up to one week.

Garlic Mashed Potatoes

2 1/2 pounds Yukon Gold, Red or Russet Potatoes

1 cup Milk

1 tablespoon Chopped Garlic

6 tablespoons Unsalted Butter

1 1/2 teaspoons Salt, plus additional to taste

Freshly ground Black Pepper to taste

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the potatoes until tender {about 25 minutes}. Drain well. Combine the milk and garlic in a saucepan and simmer for 5 minutes. In a large bowl, mash the potatoes, milk mixture, butter, salt and pepper to the desired consistency. Taste and adjust the seasonings if necessary. Serve immediately.

Steamed Broccoli

2 Heads of Broccoli

1 teaspoon Butter

Salt & Pepper to taste

Chop broccoli to desired size. Put a colander over a medium sized pot 1/4 full of water. Bring water to a rolling boil, add broccoli to colander and cover with a lid. Steam broccoli to for a few minutes to thoroughly cook but retain crispness {usually 5 minutes}.

White Chocolate Cranberry Oatmeal Cookies

3/4 cup sugar

1/4 cup packed brown sugar1/2 cup butter, softened

1 large egg

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups quick cooking oats {not instant}

3/4 cup dried cranberries

6 ounces white chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 375°F. In a large bowl using an electric mixer combine the sugar, brown sugar and butter; mix well to cream together. Add in egg and vanilla extract and mix until combined. Add the cinnamon, baking soda, salt and flour and mix well. Fold in the oatmeal, dried cranberries and white chocolate chips- making sure that all ingredients are evenly distributed. Drop dough into 1-inch balls and place 3 inches apart onto a greased cookie sheet and bake at 375° for 10-12 minutes, just until the edges are lightly golden.Remove from oven and let cool for 2-3 minutes on the cookie sheet, then transfer cookies to cooling rack.

Creme de Menthe Brownies

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and I'm excited to celebrate! Savannah has a wonderful St. Patty's Day tradition and is the home of Paula Deen who has a wonderful recipe for these brownies which tie into St. Patty's Day only because they're mint and if you squint really hard {or drink enough green beer}, mint can look a tee-tiny bit like a shamrock. Got that? Nevertheless, these delicious treats with a hint o' mint will put you in a festive mood and that's no blarney, y'all.

Brownies:

4 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate
1 cup unsalted butter
4 large eggs
2 cups granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup flour

Filling:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar
4 tablespoons green creme de menthe (or use green food coloring plus a dash of peppermint extract)

Icing:
6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
6 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions: {Prep time: 30 minutes, Total time: 55 minutes}
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mist 9x13 baking pan with cooking spray.

Prepare brownies: In double boiler, melt baking chocolate and 1 cup butter over simmering water; cool slightly. In medium mixing bowl, beat eggs with a whisk until blended, then add the 2 cups granulated sugar and continue whisking until mixture is light and fluffy. Add cooled chocolate mixture, salt, vanilla and flour. Keep whisking until thoroughly blended. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 25 minutes. Remove from the oven and leave brownies to cool in pan.

Make filling: Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the 1/2 cup butter and confectioners' sugar together until well blended. Stir in the creme de menthe and blend well. Spread over cooled brownies. Refrigerate in original baking pan until filling is firm.

Make icing: Melt the chocolate chips and 6 T butter in the top of a double boiler, stirring until smooth. (You can do this in the microwave, just monitor closely and stir a few times.). Pour the warm glaze over the filling and tilt pan to distribute the icing evenly. Refrigerate until chocolate hardens. To cut, allow brownies to come to room temperature in the pan so chocolate doesn't crack.

Call me old-fashioned or rather "Granny Chic", but I love, love a doily. The intricate designs and the often hand-tatted lace is hard to resist. I'm using them in an upcoming project and couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Not just for the back of your Grandmama's chair, doilies are a vintagey element that can be added to a host of designs including fashion and decor. I'm particularly enamored with the idea of adding one to a t-shirt or paper goods. Such a sweet detail! Now go raid Granny's linen closet.

The Bee's Knees sure is a honey of a drink. With bright notes of lemon and honey, it's like liquid sunshine. Originally a cocktail from the 1920's, the Bee's Knees has found sort of a resurgence and I must say, I am besotted. I picked up some Orange Blossom honey from my recent trip to Florida which adds another note of depth. Be sure to use a good gin, y'all, as it elevates the drink to a whole new level. One sip and it'll have you doing the Charleston. Cheers!

The Bee's Knees
4 ounces Gin {I prefer Bombay Sapphire}
1 1/2 ounces Honey Syrup
1 ounce Freshly Squeezed Lemon
Optional Garnishes: Lemon Curls or Rosemary Sprig

Honey Syrup:
1 1/2 cups Honey
1/2 Water
1/4 cup Freshly Squeezed Lemon Juice
1/2 teaspoon Grated Lemon Zest

Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Heat to a boil while stirring. Reduce the heat and cook, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is reduced by one-fourth. Set aside until cool. Using a funnel, pour into a clean container and store in the refrigerator. Keeps for several months. Yields about 1 3/4 cups.

Inspiration for this week's Love the Look comes from one of my all time favorite movies, Love Actually. The wedding scene in the beginning{ish} of the movie is adorable! The seemingly impromtu, yet totally planned, performance of All You Need is Love brings an instant good mood and Keira Knightly looks devine in her halo of ostrich feathers and unconventional wedding attire. I love her casual look with the cute white tee and skirt combo and a cardigan overlay. To get the effect, I paired this Marc Jacobs cardigan with the tee/skirt combo from JCrew. I added this pearl engagement ring riffing off of Keira's character in the movie as well as the pearl studs. I topped the look off with the champagne ostrich feather and crystal clutch and the Vivienne Westwood Anglomania pumps. Perfect for a casual wedding across the pond!

There have been multiple re-workings and re-imaginings of Margaret Mitchell's epic saga to try and produce an answer "to what happened next?", however, loyal readers would only be satisfied with an answer from the author herself. Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind: A Bestseller's Odyssey from Atlanta to Hollywood promises just that. Authors Ellen F. Brown and John Wiley, Jr. examine the life and writings of a disorganized Southern writer and how her incomplete manuscript became one of the most beloved pieces of American Literature. In a story almost as intriguing as Mitchell's own piece of work, Brown and Wiley were afforded unprecedented access to correspondence and GWTW records. They bring us the whole story and finally attempt to tell us what happened to our star-crossed lovers*.

*Margaret Mitchell was laid to rest beside her husband John in the Marsh family plot in Historic Oakland Cemetery less than a half-mile from where I live. I read GWTW every year and every year, I visit Ms. Marshall to read the final pages and hope for a "sign" as to how things turned out for Scarlett and Rhett. So far, she hasn't answered this reader. You better believe I'll be looking for that answer from Brown and Wiley and y'all should too!

I've always been a little enamored with the world of ballet. The structure, the lithe bodies and graceful movements, not to mention the fabulous costumes. Curious how I haven't been to the ballet since my final {and only} appearance in the Nutcracker in the eighth grade. I gave up dance for cheerleading in high school and while it took me through the majority of college, I couldn't quite get the hang of hip hop and always longed for the more delicate and difficult world of ballet. Obviously, I still have great love of all things frilled and ruffled and tulle. I love how all of these unexpected items can be found and used as great inspiration not only for a beyond lovely event, but in everyday life as well.

I have always been intrigued by Marie Antoinette. The hair, the fashion, the affinity for cake. One of my very favorite portrayals of the doomed French Queen is Kirsten Dunst in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette. She is amazing! The crooked little tooth, the attitude, Kiki brings her to life. Here are a few touches to help bring MA to yours. I thought Vera Wang absolutely killed it at 2011 Spring Bridal Fashion Week. Her dresses this season just epitomize french couture, especially this blush number. You think Marie Antionette would wear white to her wedding? Absolument pas! Bring on the pink. I also adore these Christian Louboutins in the same hue. Gorgeous! As a bride, Marie was gifted a blue diamond engagement ring. I like this sapphire and platium moi-et-toi version. It echoes the fleur-de-lis, also found on this cute clutch. Finally, what would Marie Antoinette do without her signature feather and flower and frill fascinator or her french macarons? Why, let them eat cake, of course!

The French 75 may look unassuming in it's wine glass, but this cocktail packs a punch! Named after the famous French 75-millmeter howitzer cannon used in World War I, the French 75 cocktail was popularized in New York's Stork Club and a concoction of the same name popped up in New Orleans' French Quarter around 1920. The French 75 includes a pert mixture of gin, lemon, sugar and champagne. For a sweeter option, substitute brandy for the gin. Bottoms up!

French 75 {serves 2, because you don't want to be drinking this cocktail alone}
3 ounces gin
3 ounces fresh lemon juice
4 teaspoons superfine granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups ice cubes
1 cup chilled champagne

In a cocktail shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, sugar, and ice cubes and shake to chill. Strain cocktails into 2 wineglasses and top off with champagne.

Organic, Rustic, Natural. Whatever you want to call it, botanical touches in your decor bring out a raw element of romaticity rarely matched outside of nature. I love adding touches of botany such as the motif on an invitation or pressed fern for the bouquet. I absolutely adore this centerpiece of living "forest floor". It's all so beautiful and "nature-y" without being thematic. I can't wait for Spring and the green spaces that follow!

Whenever my husband and I go visit his grandmother in Quitman, Georgia, we always pass by this beautiful abandoned old home. Grandma Blair tells us that the patriarch of the family built a clause into his will that stated they would receive their trust and inheritance, only if they kept the house. It could not be sold, rented or otherwise disturbed. He obviously did not will it so that the house had to be occupied by a member of the family, because they are just letting it sit there and crumble. Every time we drive by, it just makes me so sad. What a lovely home in utter decay! I decided to pull over this weekend and photograph it and am so glad I did. I used my Nikon digital camera {nothing fancy} at about 4 o'clock in the afternoon. All of the photographs are unedited and I used natural light.

Grace Kelly in the movie High Society is absolute perfection. Her last film role prior to retiring and becoming a princess, she plays the part of "ice goddess" exceptionally well. I love that she refused to wear the engagement ring provided by the studio and insisted on wearing the 12 carat emerald cut Cartier stunner given to her by Prince Rainier of Monaco. As Tracy Lord, Ms. Kelly is wooed on the eve of her upcoming wedding by her ex-husband, played by Bing Crosby, and a tabloid newspaper reporter, played by Frank Sinatra. Love Tracy's look for her wedding? To mimic her bubble sleeved overlay, I paired a strapless dress with a silk chiffon shrug. I then added some shoes with an icy sparkle, a pretty hairclip {Tracy would never wear a veil for her second marriage} and a lovely but simple clutch to show off that utterly gorgeous engagement ring. The key to this look is understatement. You want to whisper "bridal", not scream. Let that engagement ring do all of the talking.

Ask any Southerner what that carbonated, flavored beverage is they're drinking and no matter what it actually is, you'll get the same answer: Coca-Cola. "Co-cola", as my grandmother calls it, is one of the most used mixers in the history of the cocktail and why not? It's sweetness counters most dark liquors and adds a nice balance. Here in Atlanta, the home of Coca-Cola, Holeman & Finch pours up the Southern Cola cocktail using amaro, lime juice and of course, co-cola. This bittersweet cocktail is the perfect compliment to their famous burger {here's a secret: the burger is also served on the brunch menu and is available all day Sunday}. Cheers, y'all!

H&F Southern Cola

1 1/2 ounces Amaro CioCiaro

1 lime juice ice cube (make cubes using 3/4 cup fresh lime juice and 1/4 cup water)

4 ounces Mexican Coca-Cola (made with sugar cane, found in the international aisle at your local grocery)

Put the ice cube in a glass, pour in the Amaro, pour in the Coke, and gently stir. Garnish with lime.

So, I'm a little behind Grey's Anatomy and Taylor Swift, but am seriously loving The Civil Wars. Comprised of John Paul White and Joy Williams, The Civil Wars is basically a guy with a guitar and a girl with a voice. No backup band, very minimalist. Meeting by happenstance at a writing camp, the duo enjoyed their collaboration enough to create The Civil Wars. Their song Poison & Wine was played, in it's entirety, on television show Grey's Anatomy and Taylor Swift included the song as a selection in her official iTunes playlist, saying, "I think this is my favorite duet. It's exquisite."

Personally, their title track off of their upcoming album, Barton Hollow, is what fires me up about singer/songwriters. The first two notes of the guitar with the added vocals and I was hooked. I'm just so in love with raw, pure music and this duo delivers in spades. Sunday Supper

It's Super Bowl Sunday and y'all know what that means; chili and cornbread! My husband, Parker, got on this ground turkey "kick" about a year ago {blah} and although I a firmly in camp "ground beef", I have to admit that his turkey chili is to die for! Since I'm the baker in the family, my responsibility is the cornbread and of course yummy dessert. All of these recipes are super simple {with a few tricks, even pound cake can be simple} and serve between 6 - 8 folks. Y'all enjoy the game and most importantly, the spread. Pass the plates!

Parker's Very Famous and Very Spicy Turkey Chili

1lb lean ground turkey
2 1/2 tsp Tony Chachere's Seasoning mix
5 tablespoons chili powder
3 14.5 oz. cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
4 14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes, drained
1 cup onion, diced
1 garlic clove, diced
sour cream, sliced jalapenos and cheddar cheese for serving

Brown turkey. Drain and add 1 1/2 tsp of Chachere's Seasoning and 2 tbsp of chili powder. Transfer meat to crockpot. Add kidney beans, tomatoes, onions, garlic, 1 tsp Chachere's Seasoning and 3 tbsp chili powder. Stir and cook either on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. Serve with sour cream, jalapenos and cheddar cheese.

Made-from-Scratch Cornbread

1 cup self-rising cornmeal
1/2 cup self-rising flour
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 eggs
2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Pour batter into a greased shallow baking dish. Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool {or if you're like me, cut a big slice right out of the oven and eat with a tall glass of ice cold milk}.

Sour Cream Pound Cake*

1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter
3 cups sugar
1 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3 cups all-purpose flour
6 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla

In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together. Add the sour cream and mix until incorporated. Sift the baking soda and flour together. Add to the creamed mixture alternating with eggs, beating each egg 1 at a time. Add the vanilla and pour the mixture into a greased and floured 10-inch tube or bundt pan. Place pan in a cold oven on the lowest rack and bake for 1 hour at 325 degrees F. Increase temperature to 350 degrees and bake for an additional 20 minutes. Cool and serve with Vanilla Bean ice cream. Yum!

*The key to a good pound cake is simple. Use room-temperature ingredients, including the butter and eggs and start with a cold oven. Never open the oven door while baking a pound cake, it'll cause it to fall y'all!

National Signing Day was this week and as far as I'm concerned, football season has commenced. To celebrate, this week's Sip of Southern is the classic tailgate libation, the Bloody Mary. This spicy concoction is a staple from The Swamp to The Grove and can be made with a myriad of ingredients. Simply speaking, a Bloody Mary should have a base of tomato juice, vodka and a selection of spices and garnishes. No two Bloody's are alike and I prefer to put so many garnishes in mine that I fulfill my daily serving of vegetables {a healthy diet is important, y'all}. What better way to prepare for a Saturday battle on the Gridiron?

Bloody Mary

8 ounces of Tomato Juice or, if you prefer, 8 ounces Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix {the quick version}

1 1/4 ounce of Vodka, preferably Absolut Peppar or Bakon Vodka*

2 dashes of Worcestershire Sauce, or more to taste

2 dashes of Louisiana Hot Sauce, or more to taste

Salt and Pepper to taste
Horseradish to taste

Squeeze of lemon or lime

I love everything about The Secret Sisters from Muscle Shoals, Alabama. Their look. Their sound. Laura and Lydia Rogers' timeless vocals evoke such a pure sense of sound on their self-titled debut album. Such a breath of fresh air for the country music industry! This sweet song, Tennessee Me, makes me wish I was rocking on my porch swing at the end of a long summer's day. Doesn't is sound like a little southern lullaby? And they do a fabulous cover of Frank Sinatra's Somethin' Stupid. I love anyone who will take on a rendition of anything from Sinatra. Bianca Jagger. I am definitely digging her style. Fashion icon, activist, ex-wife of Mick Jagger {How could he resist her?}, close friend of Andy Warhol. Well known for her fabulous wardrobe and her wild child ways at Studio 54, to me, Bianca is the essence of the Riviera in the summertime. The flowing dresses, the bright colors, the golden skin. She is my Summer style inspiration! I am attending an outdoor wedding in the Keys in April {which may as well be Summer} and I'm swooning over this "Bianca" Lilly dress. It has Sirens on the half-shell with a little bit of sparkle! While Ms. Jagger is more St. Tropez than Palm Beach, I think she would approve of her namesake dress. Sunday Supper

It's almost supper time! At the beginning of every week, Parker and I decide on a traditional, Southern, Sunday meal {"traditional" meaning something is nearly always fried or a stick of butter is used}. It's usually our splurge meal of the week and we love cooking together from family recipes and perfecting our favorites. This week we decided to take a little break from convention and make some yummy BLFGT sandwiches {the only thing that would make this better would be to add pimento cheese}, my best Mac & Cheese dish from the Deen Brothers recipe and homemade Banana Pudding. I hope y'all enjoy the recipes and kindly make any suggestions! Have a wonderful week.

Bacon, Lettuce and Fried Green Tomato Sandwich {serves 4 or more}:

2 large green tomatoes, sliced medium to thick
Salt and pepper to taste
3 cups yellow cornmeal
3 cups canola oil
1 lb. of thick sliced bacon
8-12 crisp lettuce leaves {we prefer Bibb lettuce}
Dukes mayonnaise
Toasted sandwich bread

Season slices of green tomato with salt and pepper. Dredge in the cornmeal. Heat the oil in a skillet. Fry the tomatoes until crisp and golden on both sides. Remove from pan and place on paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.

Spread the mayonnaise on the toasted bread. Build your sandwich with the lettuce, fried green tomatoes and cooked bacon.

The Deen Bros. Baked Macaroni and Cheese {serves about 8}:

2 cups of uncooked elbow macaroni
8 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded (about 2 cups)
8 ounces American cheese, shredded (about 2 cups)
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup sour cream
2 eggs
1/4 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
1 teaspoon bottled hot pepper sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish; set aside. In saucepan, cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. Return macaroni to saucepan.

While macaroni is hot, add the cheeses to the pan; stir well. Spread the macaroni mixture in the prepared baking dish. In a bowl, whisk together the milk, sour cream, eggs, butter, hot sauce, and salt. Pour the milk mixture over the macaroni.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Banana Pudding {serves 4 to 6}:

2 cups whole milk
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg plus 1 egg yolk
3 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 box of Nilla wafers
2 large bananas, sliced
3/4 cup heavy cream, chilled
1/4cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Heat the milk, sugar and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat until simmering, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar. Meanwhile, whisk the egg and yolk in a medium bowl until thoroughly combined. Whisk in the cornstarch until combined and the mixture is pale yellow and thick, about 20 seconds.

When the milk mixture reaches a full simmer, gradually whisk the simmering mixture into the egg mixture to temper. Return the mixture to the saucepan, scraping the bowl with a rubber spatula; return to a simmer over medium heat, whisking constantly, until a few bubbles burst on the surface and the mixture is thickened and glossy, about 30 seconds. Off the heat, whisk in the butter and vanilla.

Strain the pudding through a fine-mesh sieve set over a medium bowl. Place plastic wrap directly on the surface of the pudding to keep a skin from forming.

Line the bottom of a 1½-quart serving dish with vanilla wafers. On top of the wafers, place a layer of the sliced bananas. Pour ½ of the pudding over the bananas, and spread to the edges of the dish. Repeat the vanilla wafers, bananas, and pudding again. Press plastic wrap against the surface of the pudding and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.

Fiddle dee dee! I just love this little ol' drink named after Miss Scarlett O' Hara. After the release of Gone With the Wind, Southern Comfort decided to shake up a cocktail that's one part sweet, one part spicy. Just like Miss Scarlett herself. Popular in college bars as a shot, the Scarlett O' Hara is best left to sipping for those of us who prefer our libations "adult". Why, just like her character, Miss Scarlett is mighty cunning and will sneak up on you after one or two. Preferably, this cocktail is best served right after the final pages of Miss Mitchell's classic and frankly, my dear, after reading that Southern saga, you're going to give a damn...and need a drink.

Scarlett O' Hara

1 1/2 ounces Southern Comfort

1 1/2 ounces Cranberry Juice

1/2 ounce Rose's Lime Juice or more to taste

{Rose's is a sweetened Key lime juice. Use it instead of regular lime juice, which can be too tart}

Garnish with a lime wheel or maraschino cherry

Pour all ingredients except the garnish into a cocktail shaker filled with ice; mix well. Strain into a chilled martini glass or an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Add the garnish.

You would have to have lived either under a rock or way above the Mason Dixon line {like, Canada} not to have heard about Kathryn Stockett's The Help. Set in turbulent 1960's Mississippi, Ms. Stockett highlights the complex relationships between employers and their employees. An underlying message of the employer valuing "the help" as family, yet keeping a distance and drawing an unmistakable line because of skin color.

I am in the midst of reading it for the second time and love it more and more with each flip of the page. Ms. Stockett has done an exceptional job of writing from the perspective of three characters, two of which are African American. Her ability to weave the lives of these characters, all with multifaceted backstories and in a convincing voice makes her a wonderful additon to Southern literature.

The much anticipated movie will arrive in theaters in August of this year. The fabulous Emma Stone will be playing the role of Eugenia "Skeeter" Phelan and will be surrounded by a wonderful cast including Sissy Spacek, Viola Davis and Bryce Dallas Howard. I am truly looking forward to the performance of local actress, Octavia Spencer, in the role of Minny and the addition of South Carolinian, Anna Camp. I am thoroughly bored with cold weather. Aren't you? Personally, I cannot wait for the first {mildly} warm winds of Spring. I long to be like Jack and Jackie. Hop on a sailboat, feel the whipping wind in my hair and taste the salted sea spray. While I am quite a drive from the sea, I can at least look the part, no? Jackie was famous for her collection of Jack Rogers and I adore this neutral slim jute ballet flat; brand new for the Spring. And doesn't this jacket look like something she would wear to Regatta? I loved it so much, it's hanging in my closet! There are at least a couple more months of drab weather, but the promise of a nautical Spring awaits. The cheery colors of the coming season should be enough to brighten the rest of your chilly Winter days.

I am a lover of all things ancient. Soaked in story and rich in history. Almost always, I choose the old over the new. It's no wonder then that New Orleans plays a siren song for me. There is no explanation, I have no ties to the city, however, when I am there I am present. I feel alive and filled with such a joie de vivre. I understand this happens to a lot of folks down there. One specific gift I have received from the Crescent City is my signature cocktail, the Pimm's Cup. Imbibed for the first time in the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone, the bartender wove such a fantastic tall tale about the cocktail, I was sold {it's also quite refreshing}.

True story: in 1840, Pimm's No. 1 Cup was created by James Pimm, a bartender in London's Financial District. Originally created as a digestive tonic, Mr. Pimm blended a concoction of gin, quinine and a mixture of herbs. He began selling Pimm's No. 1 commercially and according to the company, only six people know the original recipe for the liqueur. The Pimm's Cup is still the most popular cocktail of choice at Wimbledon.

If you are in New Orleans, a Pimm's Cup at the Carousel Bar or, the more popular choice, the Napoleon House is a must. Thankfully, the mixologists at H. Harper here in Atlanta make a lovely version as well. I'll clink to that!

Pimm's Cup Recipe

Fill a tall 12 ounce glass full of ice

Pour 1 1/4 ounce Pimm's No. 1

Add 3 ounces of Lemonade

Top off with 7-Up

Garnish with cucumber

Apologies for my long absence! I have finally dug myself out of the snow and am ready to take on the new year {about time!}. As you will notice from some of the last "Sweet Snapshots", the direction of my blog is ever-evolving and has started to deviate a bit from all things "wedding". With that said, I have some big announcements coming throughout the year and hope that you will bear with me. Until then, I am happy to say that I am officially under construction!

The Office

I haven't worked in an office in almost two years. I wake up, roll out of bed and go to "work" at my desk in a tiny nook in my home. Oh, how I long for a workspace! A bright, shiny space all my own where I can relax, be inspired and create. Naturally, I have come to the conclusion that I want to put an Airstream trailer in my backyard. Parker thinks I'm a crazy person. I have had this desire for quite some time, however, the picture above from Anthropologie has just added fuel to my fire {the fact that it's pulled by a Country Squire "Woody" makes it even more exciting}. It literally is bright and shiny! It would have wooden floors and a small, fluffy rug. A long cork wall for all of my visual inspiration. Bright white inside with small pops of color. It makes me breathe easier just visualizing it all. One day, the Airstream will be mine. In the meantime, my backyard and I, we patiently wait.

Twenty-Eleven

It is the third day of 2011 and I haven't set any goals. While usually I would be panicking at this point for not having "a goal", this year I don't intend to. For me, 2011 is going to be, quite simply, the year of decisions. I have spent the last part of 2010 digging and honing and cultivating myself. Answering tough questions about who I was, who I am now and best of all, who I am going to be. I am confident when I say that this year will be nothing short of phenomenal! A good friend suggested some action steps for decision making in the new year and what valuable advice it is: 1.Evaluate what didn't work in 2010, 2.Define what did work, 3.Get clear and write out your fears, 4.Evaluate the people you surround yourself with, create a vision and an inspiring environment, 5.Create a list of 2011 decisions and action steps to take. I can not stress the importance of breaking big dreams into tiny action steps. Anything is possible with action.

Above, you will find one of my very own action steps, my personal vision board for this year. Obviously, it doesn't encompass everything I have planned, so here are some of my decisions for 2011: This is the year that I get serious about my business and put my whole self out there. This is the year that I release my inner brilliance and stop living small. This is the year I become a mentor. This is the year of travel. This is the year I master floral design. This is the year I am social. This is the year I focus on my health. This is the year I remember to experience the little moments with my husband. This is the year we join a church. This is the year we unplug for an entire week and go away, just the two of us, for the first time since our honeymoon. This is the year of education. This is the year of authenticity. This is the year of faith. This is the year of love. This vision board will be tacked up on my inspiration wall by my desk as a daily reminder of all that I hope to accomplish in 2011. I will also be posting a monthly journal entry with a self-portrait {an idea I got from this awesome lady} so I can keep a running tab on my successes and failures and celebrate them all at the end of the year. A year from now you will wish you had started today-Karen Lamb. Make it count!

DIY on the Fly: Southern Terrarium

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! If y'all are like me, you're still running around like mad trying to get everything perfect for Christmas morning. I'll be taking a break for the rest of the weekend to celebrate the season and spend time with family, but before I head to South Carolina, I wanted to share this precious DIY ornament project I worked on for my recipients in the Southern Weddings annual ornament exchange. I assembled the "ingredients" I would need: Spanish moss, cotton and hay, all things that could be found on our family's farm. I sourced a clear glass ball from a craft store as my container and I chose a gingham ribbon in sophisticated black and white for my simple bow. Voila, y'all! A "Southern" terrarium fit for the finest of Douglas firs. Merry Christmas!

Carlee Cooks: Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Baking is a passion for me. The steps of a recipe are soothing and I find myself relaxing as I assemble ingredients and create from scratch. Christmas is especially wonderful as I bake for others: peppermint bark for Mom, "Christmas Fudge" for Dad, banana pudding for PJ and Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie for my Uncle John. I blogged about this special treat here, but was unable to find the time to bake one for him for Thanksgiving, so he will now be finding one under the Christmas tree.

Tomorrow, I'll be assembling my Southern Terrarium ornament, a wonderful last minute gift option. Merry Christmas, y'all!

Sweet Succulents

I am really digging on succulents right now. For a self-professed "black thumb", a plant that only needs sunlight and water "when you remember" is the perfect option. You can even break a piece off and, if planted, it will live forever as it's own entity. Not only are they low maintenance, but they are truly lovely as bouquets, place settings, favors and other decor. After use, just replant and voila! You have your very own succulent garden.

Happy Thanksgiving! By all accounts, this post is a day late and a dollar short, however, my husband surprised me earlier this week with a well thought out trip to Charleston, so I decided to enjoy my time with him and pretty much take the week off. I did, however, take time yesterday to reflect on all of my blessings and decided to make a {very}short list of all of the things for which I am thankful: my renewed sense of faith, the ability to take this time to rejuvenate before a very busy December, my lovely family {including my darling cat, Lulu}, old friendships and new, my support system {you know who you are} and last but not least, Parker, the love of my life. I hope y'all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are ready to take on the holiday season!

Scenes from a Thanksgiving Supper: Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

What is a Thanksgiving meal without some fresh Pecan Pie? I like to add some chocolate and a splash of bourbon because, honestly, bourbon makes it better. Parker prefers me to use Maker's Mark, but any Kentucky bourbon will do. This was such a hit last year that my uncle gave up getting slice after slice and just sat down with the pie dish at the table. Y'all are going to want to save some of this for yourselves, so go ahead and make one for your uncle and one for you

Piecrust

makes two 9-inch crusts

Ingredients
1 ²⁄³ cups all-purpose flour mixed with ¾ tsp. kosher salt
²⁄³ cup lard
¾ tsp. white vinegar
1 small egg
Water

Preparation

Place flour and salt in bowl, and cut in lard until mixture resembles small peas. In a Pyrex measuring cup, combine vinegar and egg, and add water to make ¹⁄³ cup liquid. Slowly add liquid to the flour mixture, forming dough. Do not overwork. Remove from bowl, halve, and pat into disks. If not using immediately, cover in plastic wrap and chill.

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie Filling
fills one 9 inch pie crust

Ingredients
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 ½ cups dark corn syrup
½ tsp. kosher salt
1 ½ tsp. all-purpose flour
3 large eggs
1 ½ tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. bourbon
1 ½ tbsp. sweet butter
2 oz unsweetened chocolate
1 ¾ cups pecans

Preparation

Melt butter and chocolate in a small saucepan over medium-low heat, set aside. Using a hand mixer, combine sugar, syrup, salt, flour, and eggs, mixing well. Stir in remaining ingredients and pour into unbaked pie shell.

Preheat oven to 350° F.

Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes (a toothpick inserted in center should come out relatively clean). Remove from oven and place on cooling rack, allowing pie to rest for 2 to 3 hours to set.

Two days until turkey time, but nothing says "Thanksgiving Dinner" to me like oyster dressing. This is my Uncle John's specialty and I look forward to it all year long. The secret to a great dressing is always simplicity. Freshly shucked oysters, cornbread baked from scratch, delicious! I would never dare reveal my uncle's recipe, so Paula's will have to do. Grab a fork and dig in!

Cornbread:

1 cup self rising cornmeal

1/2 cup self-rising flour

3/4 cup buttermilk

2 eggs

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Dressing:

7 slices white bread, dried in warm oven

Cornbread

1 sleeve saltine crackers

2 cups chopped celery

1 large onion, chopped

8 tablespoons butter

2 cups chicken stock

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon dried sage

1 tablespoon poultry seasoning

5 eggs, beaten

2 pints or 1 quart oysters, drained

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

To make the cornbread, combine all ingredients and pour into a greased shallow baking dish. Bake for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

To make the dressing, crumble dried white bread slices, cornbread and crackers. Mix together and set aside. Saute chopped celery and onion in butter until transparent, approximately 5 to 10 minutes. Pour over corn bread mixture. Add stock, mix well and add salt, pepper, sage, and poultry seasoning. Add beaten eggs and mix well. Add oysters and mix. Pour into a greased pan. Bake for about 45 minutes.

It's almost time for the most glorious of food holidays: Thanksgiving! Although not all about food, Thanksgiving is traditionally a holiday where you gather your nearest and dearest to share a meal and offer thanks for your blessings big or small. In my family, our tradition lies in Uncle John's Fabulous Thanksgiving Feast. The same menu, year after year, is served in the house on Main and when missed, is definitely worth shedding a few tears {sorry Sizemore family!}. In honor of this mouth-watering menu, I will be sharing a daily recipe to build the anticipation to a frenzied pitch. While some of these may not be the exact recipe {family secrets and all}, they are tried and tested, Carlee approved.

First up? My cousin, PJ's, Sweet Potato Souffle. Y'all, this stuff is so heavenly it's almost dessert! I say almost, because, well, it's made from a root vegetable and therefore, cannot be a dessert {I'm looking at you too, Sweet Potato Pie!}. As far as I'm concerned, SPS is a must serve at any Southern Thanksgiving and it must also include marshmallows or, once again, tears may be shed. While you may be tempted to eat this directly from the pan, do show some manners and wait until all your guests have gone. Enjoy!

PJ's Southern Sweet Potato Souffle

3 large sweet potatoes cooked and whipped
1 cup sugar
2 eggs beaten
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 stick butter
1/2 cup evaporated milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 bag marshmallows {preferably, the tee-tiny ones}
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

Peel and cook potatoes until tender. Drain potatoes and whip. Add sugar, eggs, salt, butter, milk and vanilla. Mix well and put in a greased 1 1/2 quart casserole. Bake in a preheated 325 degree oven for 25 minutes. Place marshmallows and pecans on top and return to oven for about 5 minutes or until brown on top. Serves 8 - 12.

Louis Vuitton is such an inspiration for me right now. Their Fall/Winter 2010-11 line was a major step {along with Mad Men} in bringing back formfitting, structured, ladylike designs. Just lovely! When I came across their core values commercial, I have to say that I was totally blown away. The wording and imagery used creates an advertisement that is merely enhanced by the product being sold. Is it the person that creates the journey or the journey that creates the person? The journey is life itself. Where will life take you? Quite fitting.

This week has been nothing short of amazing for me. If you haven't yet, check out my before and after posts for the Making Things Happen Intensive in Phoenix. Fire in the Desert: MTH2010

Action. I have been still for far too long. Words may be spoken, promises can be made, but action garners results. On Sunday, I sat in a room with 12 other women and went all in. I laid my cards on the table and was rewarded with a sense of wellness and self-fulfillment and empowerment. Finally! I know who I am. I have let go of the past and faced my future. I have decided to be present. This is such a precious gift to myself, to my husband and to my family. My life has been changed and I am so blessed to live it each day, with authenticity, with grace and with action.

I continue to thank God and pray for the women I met in Phoenix. These are my sisters, supporters and comrades on this journey and I am so honored to know them and to share this bond. We owned them all: our fears, our mistakes, our hopes and our wildest dreams. It was honest and real and exhilarating. Ten hours. Ten short hours and I know these women. Their successes will be my successes and their failures will be mine as well. I would not have it any other way.

And to Lara, Gina and Emily, you are on fire! Y'all are doing phenomenal work in our lives and I pray that this passion and leadership that you exude continues long after MTH2010 has come to an end. You are making a difference. I am so blessed to know you all and I look forward to what the future holds. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Santo & Dewi's Sweet Proposal Story

I have to admit, I shed a few tears during this sweet proposal video. Santo and Dewi are so precious together and you can just feel the love between the two of them along with their family and friends. Here is their proposal story and from Style Me Pretty, read Dewi's explanation of the video below.

This would be one of our greatest achievements… making our own pre-wedding film. The story is based on our true relationship journey. Starting at how we met, how we normally spend time together, until one day he popped the BIG question. The main concept of this film is the re-enactment of how Santo proposed to me using a lot of point of view shots from his eyes.

As for the proposal, he had been secretly planning this project for 3 months without me knowing any of the plans. Since he loves film-making so much, he expressed the “will you marry me?” using this medium. He asked all our close friends and family across the globe to make a short message clip directed to me with the topic “Why Dewi (myself) should say YES to Jack (this is his nickname) on her birthday?

He popped the question to me on my 24th Birthday with this proposal video by showing it on a new MacBook (Yes, he also gave me this laptop as a present for my birthday). I was already so surprised when he gave me the MacBook, and then suddenly there is another surprise which I didn’t expect at all….he opened the MacBook and a log-in screen appeared. However, instead of the usual log-in screen, he had changed it to say, “Will You Marry Me?”

There were 3 different options (log in) – “Yes”, “No”, or “Call A Friend”. I was quite numb by this time. He said, “Since you are now still confused, I would say just choose “Call A Friend.” Once I clicked that … the picture of him holding a note saying “Please Click Here” appeared on the screen. Then, an arrow led me to click the proposal video. My heart was beating sooo fast…I couldn’t hold my tears throughout watching the 20 min proposal video with all the special messages from more than 20 friends and family members across the globe.

He had also secretly prepared this little handy-cam next to the MacBook just before I watched the video! I am so blessed to have him. I wouldn’t ask for a better proposal than this. This video meant so much to us. I’ve been watching this film over and over, but I still get goosebumps and cry when I watch it!

It's Friday! After a waterlogged week, we are excited to be walking around in the sunshine looking for some perfect props at Metrolina in Charlotte today. Other than our "buying trip", we've got a super-exciting Saturday trip to Phoenix planned. You can read all about that adventure and how I'm Making Things Happen here. Making Things Happen 2010

On Saturday, I will be boarding a plane to take me to a city that is going to change my life and heart forever. Quite a dramatic statement, no? I will be attending an 8 hour, no-holds barred intensive on Sunday in Phoenix designed to extinguish fear and ignite the passion to enable myself to Make Things Happen. In life, love, business. When I first heard of MTH2010 and Lara Casey, I was so in awe of the progress that the attendees were making in their lives. These people were fired up! At the moment, I was like a Girl Scout trying to start a fire with damp wood. No fire here. It was just after the first leg of the tour and I heard a tee-tiny little voice within myself saying, "You need this". Not want, but need. It was time for a blow torch and some lighter fluid.

When I was younger, we had a high dive at the country club I attended. I would love to climb the tall ladder as fast as I could, walk out to the end of the board, take in the quiet at such a height and dive, not jump, but dive into the deep end. The feeling of flight and the rush of cool water was addictive and I would hop out of the pool, head for the high dive and climb again. I long for the fearlessness of my childhood as I have spent the last year of my life slowly climbing that ladder. I'm now at the end of the board and it's time to dive!

One might ask, "Why get so personal on your company blog? Your clients may read this!". Well, for me, business is personal. As a small business owner, my business is my life. As my nearest and dearest can attest, all of the joys and frustrations of owning a business are brought into my personal life and vice versa. In my opinion, if your business isn't personal, if you can take it or leave it, well, you may be in the wrong business. I hope potential clients do run across this series on the blog. Then they will know that I am actively making myself and my business better to better serve them. What more could they ask?

I honestly do not know what to expect from my time in Phoenix {I just hope I don't "ugly cry" in front of, what are for now, strangers}. I am at once anxious and thrilled at the thought of what I will discover when I am there. For the past two years, P has been asking, "What do you want to do?". At this moment, I'm not exactly sure, but I pray to have a clearer picture when I board the plane to head back to Atlanta. Monday is P's birthday and I know without a doubt that the answer to his question would be the best present I could give. But for now, my answer is simple: Make Things Happen.
